    Joe Smith & Anita Hallard

    CO-FOUNDERS/BUILDER

After exploring and learning about all the advantages of hempcrete, Anita and Joe began hosting hempcrete workshops. In 2023, they began building a 1,250 sq. ft. hemp home in Kula, the second hemp house ever built on Maui.

As a licensed general contractor, Joe was the RME of their company Deep Blue Construction Inc. Since 2007, their successful projects on Maui include the buildings and offices of Hawaiian Telcom, Pepsi Corporation, and the Ultimate Air Trampoline Park, as well as residential homes from Pukalani to the Kapalua Plantation Estates.

Concerned about the toxicity of conventional building materials they are inspired to be working with hemp.
